ZAMBIA MISSION
On October 21, 2019, DTS in collaboration with Los Angeles – Lusaka Sister City Committee, Los Angeles City and County Stentorians and a member of the Vulcan Society in New York landed in Zambia and created history in the Motherland.
The primary purpose of the visit was to train Zambian fire and rescue personnel on the three-fire apparatus – one engine, a brush patrol vehicle and brush crew carrier which was donated by LAFD, LA County FD, City and County Stentorians.
The training included operation, maintenance, and drills on the fire apparatus. The Zambian fire and rescue personnel was able to utilize the equipment and training team in real time during the visit. While in Zambia there was a house fire and a massive accident involving a big rig with several injuries and fatalities. The training team was there to direct, instruct and review the rescue operation with the local fire and rescue personnel.
The team also met with and had a site visit at the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit where various topics were discussed ranging from droughts, floods, and epidemics.
A memorable moment of the mission to Zambia was that the group was invited by Dr. Edgar Lungu and Mrs. Esther Lungu, the President and First Lady of the Republic of Zambia to attend the 55th Independence Celebration!
